Back in Action!

Well, I finally made it out of the house on Saturday! Thank goodness, I started to feel better on Friday and actually got showered, dried my hair, put on jeans, and even worked a full day (from home)! I wanted to go to the movies on Friday night, but Frank made me stay in just in case. (sigh) We ended up pigging out on microwave popcorn (my returning appetite was a sure sign that my health was back!) and watching Superbad...which was just that...super bad. I had heard so many good things about it, but Frank and I just didn't think it was that funny.

On Saturday, Frank and I made a trip to Home Depot to order blinds for our upstairs bedrooms (I was allowed out!) and then capped the evening off at the movies - We went to see Charlie Wilson's War, which was just alright. Two nights and two not-so-hot movies! By Sunday, I was back to my normal self - Went to church, the grocery store, and even made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner - with strawberry shortcake for dessert! This morning I made it to the gym for my 6am Body Pump class and sweated through the whole hour. I'm not sure if I'm up for running yet, but it sure feels good to be back in action!

Day Three

OMG - After not leaving the house at all on Tuesday or Wednesday, I was officially getting cabin fever. Yesterday I was starting to feel better and had hopes of making it into the office today, which unfortunately did not pan out. I made it out of bed and showered, but after a few dizzy spells while trying to put on my makeup and get dressed, I decided I could not make it into the office. I was simply wiped out and couldn't wait to get more sleep - I was so dizzy/faint/weak; definitely a set-back from yesterday. I felt so bad today that I had Frank take me to the doctor's, where I was simply told that I have a bad case of the flu. The doc did give me some prescription medicine which I'm hoping will help! After eating saltine crackers all day, my loving husband is making me a nutritious dinner which will also hopefully speed my road to recovery - I hope so, because I don't think I can take another day of laying around and just watching TV!

Sick as a Dog

I honestly cannot remember the last time I felt so sick. On Monday, I thought a cold might be sneaking up on me: lots of sneezing and coughing. I certainly was not prepared for what I got: high fever, aches, pains, etc. I woke up Monday night on fire and not able to sleep. After taking 2 Tylenol PMs and watching TV on the couch for almost 3 hours, I forced myself back up to bed and got some sleep. Yesterday morning, every single part of my body ached - It even hurt to type my email to my team letting them know I wasn't making it in to the office. My activities yesterday consisted of moving from my bed down to the couch. Today, I'm feeling a little better - My fever is down to 100 degrees and the aches and pains seem to have subsided. Hopefully one more day of taking it easy and getting lots of rest will nip this flu-like sickness in the bud!

Scary Drive Home

Yesterday morning, while at the gym, I caught the weather report for the day: Sleet turning to rain around 3pm. Well, as usual, the meteorologist was quite wrong - Around 3pm, it started sleeting and didn't let up until late into the night when it finally changed over to rain. The ice made for a TERRIBLE commute home from Ashburn - I left the office a little after 6pm and made it home a little before 8pm and saw countless accidents on my way home. Traveling down the Toll Road at about 50 mph, the SUV next to me started sliding to the left and skidding around; after almost hitting the guard rail, the truck started coming back at me, managed to do a 180 degree turn and ended up stopped in the lane right next to me, facing the opposite direction. It was amazing that he didn't hit me or anyone else! Shortly after that, traffic came to a halt and the remainder of my drive was a pretty consistent 10 mph, virtually on a sheet of ice. My hands hurt by the time I made it home from gripping the steering wheel so tightly. I can't help but wonder if many of the accidents that I saw could have been prevented if the salt trucks had made it out earlier and, well, did their job! I did see 4 trucks sitting on the side of the road - I guess they were taking a break? What is the deal with VDOT?

A broken woman...

Well, I knew my decision to give up chocolate for Lent was going to be tough when, on my way to church on Ash Wednesday, I wanted to get out of my car and rip the Snickers bar out of the guy's hand in the car next to me...And that was only Day #1! 5 days later, I find myself sitting on my living room couch, still not warmed up from the cold weather outside, deciding to indulge in a nice cup of hot chocolate to warm me. After mixing in just the right amount of milk and sprinkling marshmallows on top, I sit back on the couch to take my first sip...DEEEEE-LICIOUS! But wait! DOH! The realization that I am drinking chocolate hits me and my guilt takes over, forcing me to pour the remainder of my heavenly treat down the drain... :( How many days until Easter?

(I did exercise great restraint earlier this evening when opening my Valentine's Day package from my Dad - A box of assorted white, dark, and milk chocolate Lindt truffles - Why, oh why does Ash Wednesday have to fall early this year????)

I'm hooked!

This past weekend, Frank & I finally swapped out all of our old kitchen goods with the great goodies we received from our wedding shower. Not wanting to just toss the old things, I figured I would try to make a quick buck by listing some items on Craig's List. After making my first sale last night, I think I'm hooked! Twenty bucks in my pocket for someone taking our old toaster oven off our hands! Then this morning another quick 20 for ridding us of our old pots & pans. Tomorrow night I have someone coming to pick up our old dishes...Now I just need to find a taker for our George Foreman grill...

Hmmmm - What else can I sell around here???

Pantry Eavesdropping

I just walked into our office pantry to grab my wrap from the fridge and overheard two women discussing United's new $25 charge for a second checked bag. I had all I could do to keep a straight face when the short, plump (I'm being nice using that adjective) woman said "I'm always over the weight limit..." She proceeded to talk about all of the shoes, etc that she travels with but I couldn't help think "Does she mean with or without luggage?" Yes, I am evil and going to hell...
